Role Overview

Drive Innovation with MATLAB & Simulink at Leading Formula 1 Teams

Are you passionate about accelerating engineering innovation in the top tier of world motorsport? Do you enjoy working closely with world‑class engineering teams to help them find the competitive edge? MathWorks is seeking an application engineer to partner with Europe\'s Formula 1 teams, power-unit manufacturers, and ECU supplier. In this senior customer‑facing role, you will act as a trusted technical advisor and innovator, guiding these industry leaders as they adopt and scale Model‑Based Design, simulation-driven development, and advanced analytics using MATLAB® and Simulink®. Your expertise will shape how the most cutting-edge motorsport machines in the world are engineered, developed, tested and raced.

Why You’ll Love This Role
  • Shape the future of Formula 1 Teams by supporting the development of electrified powertrains, active aerodynamics, advanced simulation systems, and high-bandwidth data analytics technologies.
  • Influence engineering at scale across global motorsport organisations.
  • Deliver broad technical impact—from embedded controllers to high‑fidelity simulation, machine learning, thermal/electrical modelling, driver-in-the-loop systems, and more.
  • Grow in both technical and strategic leadership, working on programs that directly impact teams’ ability to compete at the front.

MathWorks nurtures growth, appreciates inclusivity, encourages initiative, values teamwork, shares success, and rewards excellence.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage key technical engagements to drive successful deployment and adoption of MathWorks technologies, including expanding into new groups and departments.
  • Support customers in pursuing ever-more efficient and at-scale development processes, including model architecture and deployment, large‑scale simulation, and integration into enterprise toolchains.
  • Build strong working relationships with engineering managers and technical experts across engineering departments. Understand their workflows, technical strategies, and development priorities to identify where MathWorks solutions can accelerate innovation and engineering efficiency.
  • Collaborate with MathWorks development teams to represent Formula 1 customer needs and industry trends.
  • Work closely with Sales, Application Engineering, Consulting, Training, and Marketing to develop and progress account strategies based on customer and MathWorks shared objectives.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A bachelor\'s degree and 10 years of professional work experience (or equivalent experience) is required.
Additional Qualifications
  • Strong experience in automotive engineering—such as embedded controls, powertrain development, vehicle performance, system modelling, or simulation.
  • Deep proficiency with MATLAB & Simulink, or strong background in comparable tools & model-based workflows.
  • Ability to engage with engineering leadership, understand complex technical challenges, and communicate solutions effectively.
  • Passion for customer success and long-term technical partnership building.
  • Keen interest in the motorsport industry.
  • Experience working with Formula 1 teams, power-unit manufacturers or industry suppliers is a plus.
