Senior Analyst/Associate Director – Residential Capital Markets

Location: London, England, United Kingdom

About the role

This role will sit within CBRE UK’s Financial Consulting Team, and their primary responsibility will be to provide financial modelling and analyst support to the Residential Capital Markets team.

The Residential Capital Markets team provides advisory and transaction services in all forms of Residential Capital markets including Multi‑Family Housing, Single Family Housing, Purpose‑Built Student Accommodation and Affordable Housing. The team accesses capital from around the world to transact on large‑scale residential and mixed‑used projects, both existing and in development phase, joint ventures, forward commitment and forward funding opportunities, and ground rent investments. The team works on projects throughout the UK and provides capital market solutions to our clients.

What you’ll do

The role within the team is to develop and manage bespoke financial models in Excel to inform decisions and deliver strategic advisory and transactional services, driving value across our Residential Capital Markets platform. In addition, a fundamental requirement of the role holder will be to collaborate with other areas of the business including, but not limited to Investment Banking, Valuation, Geographies and Corporate Finance.

  • Provide advice on real estate and finance centred on advanced financial analysis, understanding the drivers of real estate performance from the asset level through to the impact of capital structuring on investor returns.
  • Advise clients on investment, development viability and portfolio analysis assignments across all residential sectors.
  • Create and manage bespoke financial models in Excel, adopting best‑practice techniques, ensuring efficient delivery of instructions and a high standard of service to clients.
  • Take ownership of financial models with the ability to work independently and directly with clients.
  • Apply corporate and asset‑level valuation techniques and approaches.
  • Perform scenario analysis at portfolio, financial structure and vehicle level.
  • Provide detailed, interactive, clear and relevant analysis and output from financial models with a focus on performance measurement and financial statements.
  • Analyse and interpret research data, finance facility documents, financial statements, cost consultant reports and other data to determine financial underwriting assumptions.
  • Attend client meetings as required and present financial outputs in a clear and concise manner.
  • Proactively build strong commercial awareness of the real‑estate sector, with a particular focus on those areas covered by the Residential Capital Markets teams.
  • Drive innovation and work‑process improvements.
  • Propose new innovative approaches to ensure CBRE maintains a competitive advantage in RCM.
What You’ll need

The key qualifications and skills that the role holder will have are:

  • Ideally ACA/CAIA/CFA/RICS or other relevant qualifications.
  • Significant experience in a financial modelling role in a real estate business.
  • Excellent problem‑solving, analytical and organisational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with a tenacious and methodical approach to modelling.
  • High IT literacy, particularly in MS Excel, with experience of building financial models from scratch and an aptitude for using and writing macros.
  • Ability to present complex and technical issues in a professional, clear and concise format.
  • Ability to prioritise and co‑ordinate tasks efficiently, ensuring all deadlines are met.
  • Self‑motivated, able to take initiative and work autonomously, yet comfortable with support from senior team members.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to quickly form professional relationships with colleagues and clients at all levels of seniority.
  • Pro‑active and enjoys working autonomously and as part of a wider team, including with colleagues and clients.
