Job description
Overview

We are currently seeking applications from experienced advanced nurse/clinical practitioners to join the Medicine for the Elderly team within Raigmore Hospital. Successful applicants will be supported to develop their career in medicine for the elderly with opportunities to join the team at Senior Advanced Nurse/Clinical Practitioner level (band 8a +/- annex 21), Advanced Nurse/Clinical Practitioner (band 7).

Post holder will work alongside AHPs and our existing Senior ANP within our new frailty assessment area whilst providing in reach to acute admission areas and emergency department, in addition to working in our acute care of the elderly wards.

The service will initially run 5 days per week (Monday to Friday daytime hours). Future service models may extend to 7 days; therefore post holders may be required to work evenings/weekends. Full or part time hours are available on a fixed term basis with secondments considered.

Senior ANPs will be expected to manage patients with higher degrees of medical complexity, often without any immediate face-to-face senior decision-making support. They will also be expected to have practical skills to manage unselected medical patients without immediate senior medical support.

They will supervise junior medical trainees, medical students and advanced nurse practitioners/trainees/AHPs who are attached to the Medicine for Elderly team.

The post holders will spend a minimum of 80% of their clinical time within Medicine for the Elderly, with 10–20% non-clinical time to support professional activities (SPA). This will include a specific quality improvement portfolio linked to the four pillars of practice. Job plans and portfolio work streams will be agreed by the lead ANP and Clinical Lead.

We are seeking a highly experienced Advanced Nurse/Clinical Practitioner who will embrace the challenge of this evolving role. It is desirable for applicants to have expertise in comprehensive geriatric assessment to ensure high standards of care in keeping with Scottish Frailty Standards. It is desirable, but not essential, for applicants to have acute hospital experience at an advanced practice level.

Applicants will be considered from Registered Nurses, Paramedics, Pharmacists and Allied Health Professionals with relevant experience and qualifications.

Applicants must have achieved an appropriate Masters level qualification in Advanced Practice which enables competence in:

  • Clinical assessment
  • Clinical reasoning, judgement and diagnostic decision making
  • Anatomy and pathophysiology
  • Non-medical prescribing - V300
  • Leading, delivering and evaluating care
