Job summary

Moray Council is seeking an experienced Accountant to deliver the core components of the Accountancy Service and act as a business partner to all directorates. The role covers Departmental Revenue and Capital expenditure, Common Good, Trust Funds and other bodies connected to the Council.

You will supervise and develop accountancy staff, interpret and apply technical policies, and provide clear reports to Senior Officers. The post requires travel between Moray work locations by car/van.

Qualifications

• UK accountancy experience with a proven track record in local government accounting.
• Fully qualified CCAB or CIMA accountant.
• Ability to interpret and explain technical policies, procedures and legislation.

Responsibilities

• Produce Annual Accounts and Financial Plans with accuracy.
• Monitor revenue budgets and provide general financial services to departments.
• Handle capital accounting, loans pool accounting and income assessments.
• Prepare statistical returns and grant claims.
• Supervise and develop accounting staff and provide financial advice.
• Write clear, concise reports for Senior Officers and Members.
