Stockport-based accountancy practice is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to own client relationships, mentor junior team members, and develop professionally in a supportive environment.

You will manage your own portfolio, prepare accounts and tax returns, and act as a trusted advisor while collaborating closely with colleagues in a predominantly office-based Stockport setting.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years' UK accountancy practice experience in accounts preparation and tax compliance.
• Proven experience managing a portfolio of clients.
• Experience preparing statutory accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies.
• Strong knowledge of Corporation Tax and Personal Tax compliance.
• Experience liaising directly with clients and HMRC.

The Opportunity

As a Senior Accountant, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality accounting and taxation services to a diverse client base across various sectors.

You will manage your own portfolio of clients, prepare accounts and tax returns, support junior colleagues, and act as a trusted advisor to businesses and individuals.

This is a predominantly office-based position in Stockport, providing excellent collaboration with colleagues and clients while offering a stable and supportive working environment.

Key Responsibilities

Accounts & Financial Reporting

• Prepare year-end accounts and financial statements for a varied portfolio of clients.
• Produce accurate management accounts where required.
• Review financial information and ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards.
• Support clients with bookkeeping and accounting queries.

Tax Compliance & Advisory

• Prepare and review Corporation Tax and Income Tax returns.
• Liaise directly with HMRC regarding client matters and compliance issues.
• Assist clients with general tax planning and compliance requirements.

Client Relationship Management

• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients.
• Respond promptly and professionally to client enquiries.
• Gather, review and analyse client information efficiently.
• Provide proactive support and practical financial guidance.

Team Support & Development

• Mentor and support junior members of the team.
• Assist with technical queries and training where appropriate.
• Contribute to maintaining high service standards across the practice.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally possess:

Essential Experience

• 3-5 years' UK accountancy practice experience in accounts preparation and tax compliance.
• Proven experience managing a portfolio of clients.
• Experience preparing statutory accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies.
• Strong knowledge of Corporation Tax and Personal Tax compliance.
• Experience liaising directly with clients and HMRC.

Qualifications

• AAT qualified, ACCA part-qualified, ACCA qualified, ACA qualified, or qualified by experience (QBE) will be considered.
• Relevant accounting and taxation knowledge gained within a UK practice environment.

Technical Skills

• Experience using accountancy software such as:

  • Sage
  • Xero
  • FreeAgent
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively.
