Job description

At Skills Centre Plus, our mission is simple: to change lives and make a difference. We're proud to provide a supportive, inspiring environment for young people aged 16-19 who need a different kind of educational setting that meets their needs, recognises their potential, and helps them thrive.

Our learners all have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), and some can display challenging behaviours. We are looking for someone who is patient, adaptable, and genuinely cares about helping young people succeed; especially those who may not have found success in traditional educational settings.

What are we looking for?

We are seeking passionate and motivated individuals to join our dynamic team at Skills Centre Plus: Whether you are just beginning your journey into teaching, have subject expertise to share, or are an experienced qualified tutor ready to lead, we have opportunities at all three levels:

Level 1 – Entry Role

Ideal for those with a genuine interest in education but limited formal experience. You will receive structured mentoring and training while gaining hands‑on experience working alongside experienced tutors. This role provides an excellent foundation and progression toward a recognised teaching qualification.

Level 2 – Subject specialist with teaching and vocational qualification

For applicants with strong subject knowledge or vocational experience who are confident delivering engaging sessions to SEND learners. You will plan and deliver high‑quality, differentiated lessons that promote personal development, employability, and independence.

Level 3 – QTS and Industry Specific Qualification

A role for qualified professionals holding QTS, with proven teaching experience. You will lead on curriculum design, mentor junior staff, and contribute to quality assurance and curriculum improvement initiatives, ensuring outstanding learner outcomes and alignment with our accreditation standards.

Key Responsibilities (please See Individual Job Descriptions For More Detail)
  • Support and deliver engaging and inclusive learning across vocational, academic, and employability programmes.
  • Prepare and adapt resources to meet learner needs and EHCP outcomes.
  • Monitor and record learner progress, assessment, and attendance, supporting the centre’s quality assurance processes.
  • Promote positive behaviour, safeguarding, and well‑being.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, parents/carers, and external partners.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and centre improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in CPD and professional progression pathways.
Person Specification

Essential:

  • A passion for supporting young people with SEND.
  • Excellent communication and organisation skills.

  • Commitment to inclusive education and continuous improvement.

Desirable:

  • Willingness to work toward or already holding a recognised teaching qualification.
  • Experience with internal assessment, verification, and quality processes.
  • Assessor/verifier qualification or leadership experience.
Why Join Us?
  • A rewarding role making a tangible difference to the lives of SEN learners.
  • Clear professional development pathways available.
  • Supportive team culture and regular CPD opportunities.
  • Opportunities to contribute to an innovative, inclusive curriculum.
