Job description
SEND Teaching Assistant - From Nursing to Nurturing

Are you a nurse, healthcare assistant, or nursing student looking for a role that is both rewarding and balanced? A specialist SEND school in West Derby is looking for caring and dedicated people to support children with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), global delay, and complex medical needs. Many of the pupils are non‑verbal and use Makaton, PECS or BSL to communicate. Every small achievement you help them reach is a moment to be proud of. If you have experience of supporting others with care, patience and empathy, your skills are exactly what our children need.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Providing hands‑on support for pupils with complex physical, medical and learning needs.
  • Using your clinical knowledge to assist with PEG feeding, epilepsy care, mobility support and personal care.
  • Supporting non‑verbal pupils through Makaton, PECS and sensory‑based learning activities.
  • Working closely with teachers, therapists and healthcare professionals to create a safe and supportive environment.
  • Celebrating every success, however small, and helping pupils grow in confidence each day.
Who We're Looking For
  • Qualified nurses, healthcare assistants or student nurses looking for a new challenge in education.
  • People with experience in paediatrics, complex care, learning disabilities or support work.
  • Confident individuals who can assist with personal care, mobility and medical routines (training provided if required).
  • Calm, patient and caring people who want to make a real difference in children’s lives.
  • Team players with a positive attitude and a commitment to helping every child reach their potential.
What’s On Offer
  • Term‑time hours to support a healthy work‑life balance.
  • A welcoming and supportive team within a West Derby SEND school.
  • Ongoing training in moving and handling, hoisting, PEG feeding and safeguarding.
  • Refer a friend and receive up to £250.
  • A £100 joining bonus once you complete your first 10 shifts.
  • The opportunity to use your care skills in a new, meaningful way and make a real difference every day.
