Job summary

AP Education is seeking a SEND Teaching Assistant for March in the Cambridgeshire area. You will provide 2:1 support to learners with complex needs, including SEMH, autism, and SpLD, alongside a Tutor.

The role offers hourly pay of £20-£25, term-time only, with 10 to 30 hours per week, and a pathway to ongoing placements. You will collaborate with professionals to support transitions and maintain attendance records.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting children with SEND/SEMH.
  • Background in education, youth work or therapeutic settings.
  • HLTA certification preferred; two years UK experience acceptable.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide face-to-face 2:1 support with students.
  • Assist in preparing learning materials for core subjects.
  • Implement positive behaviour strategies.
  • Provide a therapeutic and adaptable approach to education.
  • Write detailed daily/weekly progress reports and liaise with external professionals.
  • Manage attendance reporting and assist transitions to education settings.

SEND Teaching Assistant - March

Hourly Rate:£20-£25

AP Education is pleased to collaborate with local authorities in delivering customised 2:1 Alternative Provision for children and young people who are unable to access a mainstream education setting.

We seek dedicated SEND/SEMH Tutors, SEND/SEMH Teachers, and HLTA in Marchand the surrounding regions.

You will be supporting learners with a range of complex needs, including but not limited to:

  • SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health)
  • Autism
  • EBSA (Emotionally Based School Avoidance)
  • SpLD (Specific Learning Difficulties)
  • MLD (Moderate Learning Difficulties)
Key Responsibilities

You’ll provide face-to-face 2:1 support, working alongside a Tutor with students from Early Years to KS4. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assist preparing learning materials for thecore subjects(Maths, English, Science) orSEND-specific
  • Implement effectivebehaviour managementusingpositive strategiesand patience.
  • Provide atherapeuticand adaptable approach to education, ensuring each learner's individual needs are met.
  • Assist the Tutor to writedetailed daily/weekly progress reportsand, where necessary, liaise with external professionals such as SALT, OT, or Social Workers to facilitate a collaborative, multi-agency approach.
  • Manage daily attendancereporting via our attendance software.
  • Assist learnersin transitioning to mainstream or specialist education settingsas appropriate.
Candidate Profile
  • Proven experience supporting children with SEND/SEMH requirements.
  • Background in education, youth work, or therapeutic settings.
  • HLTA certification preferred; however, applicants with a minimum of two years' relevant UK experience without qualifications are welcome.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
