Job summary

Milk Education is recruiting SEND Teaching Assistants to support pupils in specialist SEND schools around Guildford and the Surrey area. Typical school days run from 8:30am–3:30pm with options for full-time, part-time and ad-hoc cover.

Ideal candidates may have experience in education, care, youth work or related fields, and an Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply) is required. This is a meaningful role focused on helping children access learning.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children, young people or vulnerable adults welcomed.
  • Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one.
  • Patient, resilient and caring approach with a passion for supporting young people.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with additional needs (ASD, ADHD, SEMH, etc).
  • Support teachers with delivery of engaging lessons and activities.
  • Help implement IEPs and personalised support strategies.
  • Create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Use positive behaviour strategies to encourage confidence and independence.
  • Build strong relationships to support academic, social and emotional development.

Milk Education is currently recruiting passionate and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistants to support specialist SEND schools across Guildford and the surrounding Surrey areas.

We are looking for compassionate individuals who are committed to making a positive difference in the lives of children and young people with additional needs. Working Hours & Flexibility

Most roles follow a typical school-day schedule of 8:30am–3:30pm, Monday to Friday, with opportunities available to suit your availability:

  • Full-Time Roles: Consistent Monday–Friday positions with the potential for long-term placements and permanent opportunities.
  • Part-Time Roles: Flexible working patterns across selected days.
  • Ad-Hoc Cover: Ideal for candidates looking for flexibility alongside other commitments.
The Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will be supporting pupils within specialist SEND settings, helping them to access learning and develop essential life skills.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support for pupils with additional needs, including Autism (ASD), ADHD, SEMH, and complex learning needs.
  • Supporting teachers with the delivery of engaging lessons and activities.
  • Helping implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and personalised support strategies.
  • Creating a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Using positive behaviour support strategies to encourage confidence, independence, and emotional regulation.
  • Building strong relationships with pupils to support their academic, social, and emotional development.
Requirements
  • Previous experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable adults (education, care, youth work, coaching, or similar backgrounds welcomed).
  • An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one.
  • A patient, resilient, and caring approach with a genuine passion for supporting young people.

Experience within SEND is desirable but not essential — we welcome applications from graduates, support workers, care professionals, sports coaches, and those looking to begin a rewarding career in education.
