Job description

TeacherActive is proud to be working with a specialist SEND setting in the Swindon area. We are looking to appoint a SEND Teaching Assistant (SEND TA) to support young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs (SEMH), Autism (ASD), and a range of learning difficulties.

An ideal candidate for this role will be someone with a creative and caring approach, who can adapt to a fast-paced environment while keeping pupils’ needs at the heart of everything they do. Whether your background is in education, care, youth work, or the creative arts (music, art, drama, or performance), you’ll bring energy, empathy, and imagination to every learning experience.

This setting places strong emphasis on nurturing the whole child — helping pupils develop emotionally, socially, and behaviourally, as well as academically. We are seeking someone who can build genuine, trusting relationships with students, using creativity and compassion to inspire positive choices and confidence. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants to make a real difference in a supportive and values-driven school community.

The position will involve working with pupils across all Key Stages who have additional needs, including SEMH and challenging behaviours. You’ll be part of a highly skilled and collaborative team, helping each child to feel safe, valued, and understood. A proactive, calm, and child-centred approach is essential, along with the confidence to take initiative when supporting both individuals and small groups.

The successful SEND Teaching Assistant will have:

  • Experience working with children or young people with additional needs or disabilities
  • An understanding of, or willingness to learn about, SEND and SEMH
  • Experience supporting young people in education, care, or youth settings
  • A patient, empathetic, and nurturing nature
  • The ability to work collaboratively within a team
  • Ideally, a driving licence or access to transport

In return, you can expect:

  • A dedicated team of consultants available 24/7 to support you through the onboarding process
  • Guaranteed Payment Scheme (Terms and Conditions apply)
  • Access to high-quality CPD courses and certificates via the My-Progression platform
  • Competitive, market-leading rates of pay
  • A referral scheme – earn up to £100 when you refer a friend (Terms and Conditions apply)
  • PAYE payment system, ensuring the correct tax and NI deductions with no hidden fees
