Overview

SEND Teacher - Autism & Communication Needs - Wigan - Step Teachers

Start: January 2026 or earlier if possible

Pay: Up to £230/day for first 12 weeks, from 13th week MPS + SEN1 (ECTs welcome)

Hours: Full-time | Mon-Fri | 8:30am-3:30pm

Contract: Temp-to-perm

We're supporting a vibrant specialist school in Wigan that provides education for children and young people aged 4-19 with Autism, communication difficulties, and additional learning needs. The school offers a calm, structured, and nurturing environment where individual strengths are celebrated and pupils are encouraged to achieve their personal best.

Responsibilities
  • As a SEND Teacher, you'll lead a small class group supported by skilled teaching assistants. You'll design and deliver highly differentiated lessons that focus on communication, sensory learning, and independence. You'll work closely with therapists, families, and a multidisciplinary team to ensure each pupil's education plan is truly personalised. Creativity, patience, and adaptability are key—lessons are often hands-on, sensory-rich, and built around individual interests and developmental stages.

Requirements
  • QTS, QTLS or overseas equivalent
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply)
