Job description

We are seeking dedicated and compassionate Support Workers with a specialisation in SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) to provide vital support in a specialist school in the Calderdale area. These positions are ideal for individuals who are passionate about helping students with SEMH needs thrive, and making significant progress in their education.

Responsibilities
  • Have experience working with children or young people, particularly those with SEMH or additional learning needs.
  • Are committed to supporting students' emotional, social, and academic growth.
  • Demonstrate a positive, patient, and adaptable approach when working with students with SEMH needs.
  • Can assist teachers in delivering engaging lessons while maintaining a calm, supportive classroom environment.
  • Are confident in providing one-to-one or small group support for students with varying needs.
Skills and Qualifications Required
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics, grade C or above.
  • Additional qualifications or experience in special educational needs (SEN) or intervention programmes.
  • Proven experience as a Teaching Assistant, ideally with a Level 3 qualification or equivalent.
  • Ability to tailor learning and interventions to meet the needs of individual pupils.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with pupils, parents, and colleagues.
  • Knowledge of strategies for supporting children with social, emotional, and mental health needs.
  • Ability to work effectively with children from diverse backgrounds, showing patience and empathy.
  • Able to stay focused and positive in a fast‑paced school environment.
