SEND Specialist Tutor - Peterlee
Salary: Up to GBP30 per hour

About the Role:
Prospero Teaching are working in partnership with local councils, SEND teams, and schools across the UK. Due to high demand, we are recruiting experienced and passionate SEND Specialist Tutors to deliver one-to-one and small group tuition for students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in the Peterlee area.
This is a rewarding opportunity to support vulnerable young people outside of a traditional school setting-helping them regain confidence, structure, and continuity in their education.

The Opportunity

As a SEND Specialist Tutor, you will:

  • Plan and deliver personalised 1:1 or small group sessions tailored to each students needs.
  • Support students with SEND, including those with Autism (ASD), ADHD, Global Learning Delay (GLD), and SEMH/challenging behaviours.
  • Provide academic support, help develop life skills, and promote independence.
  • Work in settings such as the students home, libraries, or community learning hubs.
  • Play a crucial role in reintroducing structure and routine for young people awaiting suitable school placements.
  • Collaborate closely with Prospero's tuition team through weekly reporting and progress monitoring.
Contract Details
  • Location: Various locations across Peterlee - SR8
  • Setting: Home-based or community setting (e.g., library, learning hub)
  • Hours: 6-15 hours per week per student; multiple placements available
  • Duration: Ongoing - until a suitable school placement is secured
  • Rate: Up to GBP30 per hour (negotiable)
  • Type: Temporary contract - flexible part-time or full-time availability
Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver engaging, differentiated lessons for learners with a wide range of SEN needs
  • Encourage student confidence, independence, and emotional wellbeing
  • Teach life skills such as accessing the community safely and basic cooking
  • Keep accurate daily attendance records and submit weekly progress reports
  • Work collaboratively with families, carers, and other professionals involved
Candidate Requirements
  • Education/Child-related qualification (e.g., QTS, HLTA, TA Level 3, SEND diploma)
  • UK-based classroom or tuition experience
  • Experience supporting learners with SEND (ASD, ADHD, SEMH, GLD, etc.)
  • A creative, patient, and flexible approach to teaching
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Ability to provide two years of references (education/employment)
  • Experience delivering tuition in home or community settings
  • Familiarity with EHCP targets and individual learning plans
  • Experience supporting disengaged or out-of-school learners
