Job description

SEND Learning Support Assistant Special School

Location: Bradford

Duration: Temporary, Full-time, Term-time only

PK Education is working in partnership with special schools across the Bradford area, seeking experienced and dedicated SEND Learning Support Assistants who are flexible, consistent, and committed to supporting students with a wide range of additional needs.

We are looking for individuals with a strong background in supporting pupils with severe and complex needs, including PMLD, SLD, and non-verbal and pre-verbal students at both Primary and Secondary levels. This is a rewarding role for those passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of children with SEND.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the class teacher and students, ensuring individual needs are met throughout the day.
  • Work with pupils with severe complex needs, PMLD, SLD, and non-verbal and pre-verbal ASD, assisting with their learning and development.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with students to create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
  • Support students in managing their abilities, challenges, and frustrations, helping them to achieve their learning outcomes.
  • Show a flexible, hands‑on approach to supporting a diverse range of needs.
Ideal Candidate:
  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with a wide range of SEND, ideally in a special school or similar setting.
  • Minimum Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent).
  • Experience working with students on the Autistic Spectrum and with severe learning difficulties.
  • Team Teach training is an advantage but not essential.
  • Additional skills such as MAKATON, PECS, TEAM TEACH TRAINED, Visual Aids, PEG Feeding, or Hoist Training are desirable.
  • Comfortable with aspects of personal care.
  • Passionate, motivated, and enthusiastic about supporting students with differentiated needs.
  • Good understanding of SEND teaching strategies and how to tailor support to meet individual needs
Desirable Qualifications:
  • GNVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care
  • SEND Diploma or equivalent
  • Additional SEND‑specific training (e.g. MAKATON, PECS, TEAM TEACH)
  • -Competitive rates of pay from between £12.07 - £14.43 per hour. (AWR Compliant)
