SEND Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – Greenwich – September 2025 – Competitive Rates of Pay – Full-Time Role

We are seeking a committed and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join an inclusive school in Greenwich this September. HLTAs play a crucial role in supporting the strategic and educational goals of the school by providing expert assistance both within and beyond the classroom.

Role Overview
  • Deliver high-quality classroom support in collaboration with teachers to ensure engaging and inclusive learning experiences.
  • Contribute to lesson planning and preparation, ensuring that teaching resources are well-managed and lessons run efficiently.
  • Provide cover supervision for whole classes during short-term teacher absences (maximum of eight pupils per class).
  • Partner with school leadership and other staff members to support pupil progress and uphold high educational standards.
  • Support the implementation of policies and procedures to maintain a safe, positive, and effective learning environment.
Requirements
  • Demonstrated experience working with children and young people with a wide range of special educational needs, including complex learning difficulties.
  • Ability to manage and support pupils exhibiting challenging behaviours with professionalism and empathy.
  • HLTA status or equivalent teaching qualification is highly desirable.
  • Candidates with a Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification and substantial relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills—both written and verbal—with the ability to engage confidently with parents, carers, and multi-agency professionals.
  • A collaborative approach and experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proven ability to lead group or individual learning activities tailored to students’ individual needs.
  • Familiarity with alternative communication methods for non-verbal or minimally verbal learners is advantageous.
