A local government authority in Swindon is looking for a dedicated SEND Finance & Personal Budget Officer. The role involves managing payments to schools and overseeing budget management for SEND portfolios. Ideal candidates will have strong communication skills and a finance-related qualification. Training will be provided for those without SEND knowledge. This position offers a chance to contribute positively to the lives of children and families in the community.
We are seeking to recruit a dedicated individual to join our Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND) Service as permanent SEND Finance & Personal Budget Officers, to cover our education payments portfolio.
This role will be responsible for the management of payments to Swindon's schools from the High Needs Block of the Designated Schools Grant, as well as the financial management and oversight of this portfolio. This includes all aspects of budget management for multiple SEND budgets, all necessary reporting, reconciliation and necessary projections using appropriate financial systems.
You will need to be an excellent communicator, with an eye for detail and the ability to follow processes. In addition, you will have a finance‑based qualification or relevant experience, an understanding of financial management to include the management of multiple budgets and complex funding streams. We recognise that most potential applicants may not have specialist knowledge around SEND, therefore a desire to learn is essential. We will ensure that the successful applicant is provided with the relevant training to undertake the post to the required standard.
If you have worked within finance, are dynamic, driven and keen to make a difference to the lives of children, young people and their families, then we want to hear from you!
You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act "for the effective performance of a customer-facing role"). Potential applicants are sometimes put off if they don't meet 100% of the requirements. We think individual experience, skills and passion make all the difference, so if you meet the majority of the criteria, we'd love to hear from you.
Please see our Rewards and Benefits offer for more details. As an employee, you will receive a diverse and exciting environment in which to work, encouraging creativity and innovation whilst recognising the need to support ongoing personal development and a flexible work‑life balance.
For Swindon to thrive in the future, we need to lay the foundations now. It's why our regeneration and transformation programmes are already underway. So, you'll be joining us at an exciting time on our journey. We'll look to you to share your knowledge, influence decisions and drive real, positive change. With your contributions, we'll achieve our vision of a prosperous, re‑vitalised Swindon together. And you'll be proud to say it was made better with you.
