Description

Hours: Full time

About The Role
We are seeking an experienced SEND specialist to join our Education team. This is a pivotal role, leading SEND practice, student progress and reporting, and tutor development.
Our students benefit from a highly personalised approach to learning. We tailor provision to each young person's needs, working closely with families, schools and local authorities to help them engage, grow in confidence and move on to a positive next step.
You will bring deep SEND expertise and a practical, student-centred understanding of how to overcome barriers to learning. You will use this to shape personalised, sustainable support, to develop the skills and confidence of our tutors, and to make sure we meet the outcomes agreed with our local authority partners. SENCO experience, or a strong track record of coaching teachers or tutors in SEND practice, would be highly valued.
Key Responsibilities
1. Student engagement and progress
- Act as the team's SEND specialist, assessing each student's needs and barriers to learning using their EHCP.
- Work with tutors to write engagement plans for students who cannot yet manage full hours, building their hours up over time where appropriate.
- Make sure clear targets are set for each student, linked to their EHCP outcomes, and spot underperformance early so the right support is put in place.
- Plan each student's next step from the start of their placement, supporting a move back into school, college, training or employment.
- Enrol Functional Skills students with the exam provider and record their results.
- Make sure student progress meets the outcome targets in our local authority service level agreements.
2. Reporting
- Lead the production of termly and annual client reports, covering attendance, progress, interventions and exam results, ensuring they are accurate, insightful and delivered to agreed deadlines.
- Review termly progress reports from tutors, collected by the Education Quality & Safeguarding Coordinator, to track each student's progress against their goals.
- Write termly case studies for local authority partners where required.
- Present progress data to the wider team to inform strategic planning, decision-making and our annual impact report.
3. Tutor development and support
- Build our curriculum: lesson plans, syllabuses and strategies for supporting different student profiles.
- Design and oversee the tutor training calendar, ensuring it reflects the evolving needs of our student cohort.
- Develop tutors' SEND practice through observation, feedback and targeted coaching, building their capacity to take on additional hours and more complex placements.
- Support tutors early when a placement is struggling, to prevent rematches where possible.
- Plan and run regular online and in-person events that build a sense of community among our tutor team.
- Gather regular feedback from tutors and use it to shape the training, resources and support we provide.
4. Multi-agency working and EHCPs
- Work with families, schools, local authorities and therapists on support plans.
- Help school staff build the skills and confidence to support students themselves.
- Prepare for and attend EHCP Annual Reviews for students with the most complex needs, and provide templates and guidance so tutors or RCMs can contribute to all other reviews.
