SEND 1:1 Teaching Assistant

Step Teachers is offering flexible 1:1 teaching assistant opportunities for SEND support across a range of school settings. The role focuses on delivering dedicated support to pupils with special educational needs and disabilities, fostering inclusion, and working closely with class teachers and SENCOs.

Responsibilities
  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support for pupils with SEND.
  • Implement individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour support strategies.
  • Support pupils in accessing the curriculum and achieving learning goals.
  • Foster positive relationships to build confidence and engagement.
  • Assist with personal care and mobility needs where required.
  • Work closely with class teachers and SENCOs to monitor progress.
  • Promote inclusion and encourage independence in learning and social situations.
Ideal Candidate
  • Experience supporting children with SEND, particularly in a 1:1 capacity.
  • Knowledge of a range of special educational needs, including autism, ADHD, and speech and language difficulties.
  • A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to supporting pupils.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to adapt to different school environments and pupil needs.
  • Relevant qualifications in education or child development are desirable.
  • An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
