SEN Tutor - Maths, English or Science

About the Role:

We are seeking experienced, dedicated, and passionate SEN and SEMH Tutors to join our team in the Preston area. As an SEN Tutor, you will provide high-quality, tailored tuition sessions to students across various year groups, ranging from Year 1 to Post-16, in Maths and/or English and/or Science, and potentially other subjects. You will deliver tuition in line with the current UK national curriculum and work to build students' academic confidence, social skills, and overall success.

Sessions are available on school premises, at students' homes, or in public spaces (such as libraries). Tuition can range from 1 hour per week to up to 15 hours per week, and SEN Tutors will have the opportunity to form long‑term, meaningful relationships with students, offering consistent support and encouragement throughout their academic journey.

The students you will be working with will have different SEN and SEMH needs such as Autism, ADHD, Speech and Language Difficulties, Auditory Processing Disorder, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dyspraxia, Learning Disabilities, Moderate or Severe Learning Difficulties, Challenging behaviours, Impulsivity and hyperactivity, Non‑compliance and refusal to engage, Anxiety and depression, Low mood and withdrawal, Low self‑esteem, Response to trauma and adverse experiences, Difficulty building and maintaining relationships, Social skills difficulties, Substance misuse, Sensory overload, Neurodevelopmental needs, or Grief and loss.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver tuition sessions in Maths, English and/or Science, and potentially other subjects, following the UK national curriculum
  • Provide individualised support for students in both core academic subjects and social development
  • Work with students across a range of year groups, from Key Stage 1 through to Post-16
  • Develop and implement tailored lesson plans that cater to each student's unique learning needs
  • Foster a positive and supportive learning environment that builds students' confidence and self‑esteem
  • Work with students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and adjust approaches to ensure inclusivity and accessibility in learning
  • Maintain ongoing communication with students and their families regarding progress and any areas for further development
Requirements:
  • Proven experience in delivering tuition in Maths, English, and/or Science
  • Strong understanding of the current UK national curriculum
  • Experience working with students with Special Educational Needs (SEN)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong, positive relationships with students
  • A DBS check on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one before employment commences
