Job description

SEND Specialist Tutor - Peterlee Area

As a SEND Specialist Tutor, you will provide personalised tuition for students with a range of SEND needs. Your focus will be on helping students regain confidence, develop life skills, and make progress in their education while awaiting a suitable school placement. Tuition sessions will take place during school hours, and you’ll work either in the students home or at a local community setting (such as a library or learning hub). You’ll be required to submit regular reports on student progress and work closely with Prospero Teaching to ensure each student’s needs are met.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver one-to-one or small group tuition tailored to the individual needs of students with SEND.
• Develop personalised lesson plans addressing specific learning gaps and life skills.
• Support students in building confidence, fostering independence, and improving life skills such as community access and simple cooking.
• Monitor and track progress, providing constructive feedback to students and families.
• Maintain a motivating and supportive learning environment.
• Complete daily attendance records and weekly progress reports.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Education-related qualification (teaching, support work, or related field).
• Experience working with students with SEND including Autism, ADHD, Global Developmental Delay, and challenging behaviours.
• Previous experience working with children, either as a teacher, tutor, or support worker.
• Ability to adapt lessons and approaches to meet the individual needs of students.
• Creative and patient, with a flexible approach to teaching.

Eligibility

• Right to work in the UK.
• Enhanced DBS check registered with the online update service (or willingness to apply for one).
• Ability to provide references from the past two years of employment or education.

Contract Details

• Location: Various locations across Peterlee.
• Hours: Flexible part-time (615 hours per week per student), with full-time availability possible.
• Rate of Pay: Up to GBP30 per hour (negotiable).
• Start Date: ASAP.
• Duration: Ongoing, until a suitable school placement is found for the student.
• Setting: Home or community-based learning environments (e.g., libraries, hubs).
