JOB OVERVIEW

We are seeking a highly reliable, resilient, and proactive SEN Tutor to work 1:1 with a 15-year-old boy across home, school, and community settings.

PLEASE NOTE:

This is a purely educational tutoring role, not a personal care position. It is an extraordinary opportunity for an ambitious practitioner to work directly alongside multidisciplinary specialists and make a profound impact on a young person’s development.

The child is a calm, kind, and inquisitive learner who reads and writes around Key Stage 2 level. He is deeply rewarding to teach and motivated to connect with those around him. His primary area of focus is speech clarity, expressive language, and functional communication.

As the SEN Tutor you will support his progress, the family with support, have built a collaborative, evidence-based home and school programme guided by a multi-disciplinary team, including a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA with 15+ years of experience), a Speech and Language Therapist, and an Occupational Therapist.

The family need someone proactive, dynamic, and emotionally mature—never passive. While you will work within a structured, evidence-based curriculum, you will be expected as the lead tutor to actively review how concepts are delivered, bring fresh ideas to the table, and constructively challenge how things are taught to optimise his engagement. Outstanding communication, punctuality, and personal accountability are non-negotiable.

Prior ABA experience is NOT required. Above all, we value strong practical SEN experience, high personal standards, and a genuine passion for learning.

DUTIES

Your duties as the SEN Tutor include:

  • Proactive Curriculum Delivery & Adaptation: Deliver his established teaching programme while actively evaluating what works, bringing creative problem-solving to the table, and refining how content is presented to keep learning engaging
  • 1:1 Teaching & Collaboration: Work in close, daily collaboration with the BCBA and therapy team to implement structured goals and communicate progress clearly and professionally
  • Speech & Communication Focus: Implement speech and oral-motor protocols (including TalkTools and Primitive Reflex Integration) to support clear speech and expressive communication
  • School & Community Support: Travel with him in his private taxi to and from his SEN school in Earlsfield (Tuesday to Friday), shadow him in class to foster independence, and support social integration. (Mondays are home-based only as he attends school independently)
  • Functional Life Skills: Accompany him on community outings (e.g., local errands, public transport, grocery shopping) to build practical independence
  • Data & Progress Tracking: Track programmes and data daily using Hi Rasmus to ensure accuracy and inform ongoing updates to his curriculum
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
  • SEN Experience: Practical experience supporting young people with SEN (paid, voluntary, or placement-based), particularly those with receptive language, communication, or processing challenges.
  • Education: Degree in Special Educational Needs (SEN), Psychology, Education, Speech & Language Therapy, or a related discipline.
  • Spoken English Clarity: Exceptionally clear and consistent spoken English, with precise articulation and pronunciation, is essential. Due to the child's specific auditory-processing and speech-mirroring needs, applicants must be able to communicate using speech patterns that he can process and reproduce accurately. Suitability will be assessed objectively during the recruitment process
  • Reliability & Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills, clear professional communication, and flawless punctuality and dependability
  • Resilience & Mindset: A robust, can-do mindset, emotional maturity, and strong personal resilience. You take professional feedback constructively and stay focused on results
  • Proactive Approach: You take ownership of your role, think critically, and actively bring solutions rather than waiting for instructions
  • Status: Self-employed status in the UK with valid right to work (no visa sponsorship available)
  • DBS: Valid Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one)
BENEFITS
  • Full funding and guidance to complete the 40-hour Registered Behaviour Technician (RBT) online qualification
  • Comprehensive training in TalkTools, speech protocols, Primitive Reflex Integration and data tracking via Hi Rasmus
  • Regular clinical supervision and mentorship from a senior BCBA, including weekly data and curriculum reviews, monthly in-person visits and ongoing Zoom and phone support
  • Collaborative working environment where initiative and creative ideas are valued
  • Course completion and loyalty bonuses, with details shared at interview
