Job description

We are seeking dedicated and experienced SEN Specialist Tutors to provide personalised, one-to-one outreach tuition to secondary-aged students across Lincolnshire, from Year 7 through to GCSE.

This role is ideal for a tutor who is passionate about supporting young people who may be struggling to access mainstream education due to additional learning needs, SEND, school anxiety, or other barriers to education.

You will deliver engaging and highly individualised tuition programmes designed to help students re-engage with learning, rebuild confidence, develop essential skills, and make meaningful academic progress.

Maths and English teaching experience is essential. The ability to teach Science at secondary level, particularly GCSE, is highly desirable.

Most referrals involve approximately 10-15 hours of tuition per student per week, generally delivered during school hours, although flexibility may be required depending on the individual learner and referral.

This is an outreach-based role, so tuition may take place in a learner's home, community setting, or another suitable agreed location.

About the Students

The students you support may have a range of additional needs and barriers to education, including:

  • ADHD
  • Dyslexia
  • Dyscalculia
  • Speech and Language Difficulties
  • SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs
  • School anxiety
  • Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA)
  • Previous disengagement from mainstream education
  • Gaps in learning or difficulties accessing the curriculum

You will need to be confident adapting your approach to meet the individual needs of each learner and creating a calm, supportive environment where they can feel safe and successful.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality, one-to-one outreach tuition to secondary-aged learners from Year 7 to GCSE.
  • Teach Maths and English confidently across the secondary age range.
  • Assess individual learning needs and identify gaps in knowledge.
  • Plan and deliver structured, personalised learning programmes.
  • Adapt teaching methods and resources to suit different SEND profiles and learning styles.
  • Support learners to work towards their EHCP targets, curriculum objectives and academic goals.
  • Help students prepare for GCSEs and other relevant examinations where appropriate.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with learners who may have experienced significant barriers to education.
  • Monitor progress and maintain accurate records of learning, engagement and achievement.
  • Provide appropriate feedback and updates to parents, carers, schools and relevant professionals.
  • Work collaboratively with families and other professionals involved in the learner's education.
Candidate Requirements

We are looking for tutors who have:

  • Strong experience teaching secondary Maths and English.
  • Experience working with students from Year 7 through to GCSE.
  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN/SEND; a minimum of two years' experience is preferred.
  • A strong understanding of different SEND profiles and effective strategies for supporting learners with additional needs.
  • The ability to engage and motivate students who may be anxious, disengaged or reluctant to learn.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A patient, adaptable and empathetic approach.
  • The ability to work independently and confidently within an outreach environment.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to plan structured, purposeful sessions.
  • An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
  • A genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers to education and achieve their potential.

Experience teaching GCSE Science would be particularly advantageous.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • SEN/SEND-related qualifications or specialist training.
  • GCSE and/or A-Level teaching experience.
  • Experience supporting learners with EHCPs.
  • Experience working within alternative provision, specialist settings or mainstream schools.
  • Experience supporting learners experiencing school anxiety, EBSA or prolonged absence from education.
Why Join Us?

This is a rewarding opportunity for an experienced SEN tutor who wants to make a genuine difference to the lives of young people.

You will have the opportunity to work closely with individual learners, providing consistent, personalised support that helps them reconnect with education and make progress at their own pace.
