Masterclass Education is delighted to be working in partnership with a specialist school in Portsmouth, providing education for pupils aged 3-19 with Severe and Additional Learning Difficulties (SLD/ALD). The school is renowned for its inclusive, nurturing ethos, exceptional staff team, and commitment to helping every pupil reach their full potential, academically, socially, and emotionally.

This is a fantastic opportunity for both experienced Teaching Assistants and individuals looking to start a rewarding career in Special Educational Needs (SEN).

The Role

Responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting students aged 3-19 with a range of severe and additional learning difficulties, including Autism, physical and sensory needs, and complex communication challenges
  • Working collaboratively with teachers and therapists to deliver engaging, differentiated learning experiences
  • Using specialist strategies such as Makaton, PECS, sensory integration, and visual supports (training provided if needed)
  • Promoting a safe, calm, and structured learning environment that encourages independence and confidence
  • Assisting with personal care, mobility, and feeding routines where required (training and support provided)
  • Supporting pupils during lessons, therapies, and community-based learning activities
  • Encouraging positive communication, social interaction, and emotional wellbeing
What We're Looking For
  • Experience working with children, young people, or adults with additional or complex needs (preferred but not essential)
  • A patient, compassionate, and resilient approach to supporting learners with diverse abilities
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • A proactive and flexible attitude, with a genuine passion for supporting SEN education
Essential Requirements
  • A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • A DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
  • A genuine enthusiasm for helping every pupil achieve their personal best
