SEN Teaching Assistant - Perry Barr, Birmingham

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive primary/secondary school in Perry Barr. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) to make a real difference in pupils' learning and development.

You will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to provide 1:1 and small-group support, helping pupils with additional needs to access the curriculum, develop confidence, and achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide targeted support to pupils with a range of SEN, including autism (ASC), ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH).
  • Assist the class teacher in planning and delivering differentiated learning activities.
  • Support pupils in managing their behaviour and building positive relationships.
  • Help create an engaging, inclusive, and safe learning environment.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCOs, and external professionals.
  • Record progress and provide feedback to teachers and parents when required.
Requirements
  • At least 6 months' experience working with children in the UK (school or childcare setting).
  • A current Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willing to obtain one).
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to adapt to different learning styles.

(A relevant Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant or SEN qualification is desirable but not essential.)
