Job summary

Ortus Recruitment Ltd is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to support children in Southeast London. The role is full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:30am–4pm, with a salary of £93–£105 per day PAYE and an ASAP start.

You will work 1:1 with pupils who have SEN, assist small groups, and help maintain an inclusive classroom atmosphere. The ideal candidate is passionate, adaptable and ready to make a difference for children in need.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working 1:1 or in groups with children in a school or childcare setting.
• Experience supporting children with special educational needs and disabilities.
• A genuine passion for the wellbeing and development of children.
• Flexibility and resilience when navigating challenging behaviours.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships with pupils, staff and families.
• Patience, empathy and calm problem-solving under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 support to pupils with special educational needs, building trust and helping them access learning in a way that works for them.
• Support small group interventions and assist the class teacher with planning, delivery and resources.
• Help create an inclusive, stimulating and safe classroom environment.
• Build positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents.
• Support children’s emotional, social and academic development throughout the school day.
