Job summary

Prospero Teaching is recruiting a Teaching Assistant for a welcoming secondary school in the Gosport area for an immediate start. The role provides tailored 1:1 and small‑group support to pupils with EHCPs, helping them engage in lessons, regulate behaviour, and achieve positive outcomes academically and socially.

Experience in youth work, coaching, mentoring, or care is valued. The role is full‑time, term‑time, 8:30am–3:30pm, with a pay rate of £14.25–£15.66 per hour.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable individuals is desirable.
  • Strong relationship‑building and communication skills are essential.
  • Calm, patient, and resilient approach is important.
  • Experience in education, youth work, coaching, mentoring, care, sports, or support work is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored support to pupils with EHCPs.
  • Work 1:1 and in small groups to support engagement and progress.
  • Assist with behaviour management and emotional regulation.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils and collaborate with teachers and SEN staff.

Job description

Teaching Assistant

Prospero Teaching is working with a welcoming secondary school in the Gosport area to recruit a dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistant for an immediate start.

This is a full‑time opportunity supporting pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). The role will involve working closely with a small number of students, helping them engage in lessons, regulate behaviour, and achieve positive outcomes both academically and socially.

The school is particularly keen to hear from candidates with backgrounds in youth work, coaching, mentoring, the military, sports, care, or behaviour support, who can build strong relationships and act as positive role models.

Following a successful trial day, the school is looking to appoint immediately.

The Role:
  • Provide tailored support to pupils with EHCPs
  • Work closely with students on a 1:1 basis and within small groups
  • Support engagement, participation, and progress in lessons
  • Assist with behaviour management and emotional regulation strategies
  • Build strong, positive relationships with pupils
  • Encourage confidence, independence, and resilience
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams, and SEN staff
  • Promote a safe and inclusive learning environment
  • Follow safeguarding and school policies consistently
Ideal Candidate:
  • Experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable individuals
  • Strong relationship‑building and communication skills
  • Calm, patient, and resilient approach
  • Confident supporting pupils who may require additional behavioural or emotional support
  • Experience in education, youth work, coaching, mentoring, care, sports, or support work desirable
  • Passionate about making a positive difference to young people's lives
  • Able to commit to a full‑time role
Contract Details:
  • Position: Teaching Assistant (EHCP Support)
  • Location: Gosport
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Working Hours: 8:30am - 3:30pm
  • Working Pattern: Full‑time, term‑time
  • Pay Rate: £14.25 - £15.66 per hour
Key Stages: KS3 & KS4Experience, Training & Safeguarding:
  • Experience supporting children or young people desirable
  • SEN or behavioural support experience beneficial
  • Safeguarding training can be provided
  • Enhanced DBS required (or willingness to obtain one)
