The Opportunity:

Long Term Futures are looking for a nurturing and resilient Teaching Assistant to support two primary school children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), one who is mute and another who needs focused behaviour support.

This is a highly personalised support role, combining consistent one-on-one interaction, structured play, and emotional regulation. You'll be helping pupils to access learning in a way that's responsive, routine-driven, and relational.

Your Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver 1:1 tutoring sessions focused on communication, engagement, and sensory learning.
  • Implementing individual education plans (IEPs).
  • Assisting with communication and social skills.
  • Work closely with the SENCO, therapist and class teacher as part of a larger support network.
  • Use calm and consistent behaviour management strategies to support regulation and transitions.
Requirements:
  • Previous experience working with ASD pupils or individuals with communication needs.
  • Hands on experience using methods like PECS, Makaton or other ASD techniques.
  • Familiarity with early years education and primary school structures.
  • A calm personality, resilient when faced with challenges.
  • A valid DBS and at least two references covering the last 2 years of employment.
