Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant to join our inclusive and supportive school environment. The successful candidate will work closely with our SEN team to provide essential support for students with a range of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), including complex needs. Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-to-one support for students with complex needs, ensuring their full participation in classroom activities and school life
  • Collaborate with teachers and the SEN Coordinator (SENCO) to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with SEND
  • Assist in the delivery of tailored learning activities and interventions to support students' academic progress and personal development
  • Monitor and record students' progress, maintaining accurate and up-to‑date documentation
  • Support students with personal care needs, including toileting, feeding, and mobility assistance, when required
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all students within the classroom and wider school community
  • Implement behavior management strategies in line with school policies and individual behavior plans
  • Prepare and adapt learning materials to meet the diverse needs of SEN students
  • Provide emotional and social support to students, fostering their independence and self‑esteem

Detailed Role Description
1. One-to-One Support

As a SEN TA, you will be responsible for providing dedicated one-to-one support to students with complex needs. This involves:

  • Developing a strong, trusting relationship with assigned students
  • Adapting teaching methods and materials to suit individual learning styles and needs
  • Supporting students' participation in classroom activities, ensuring they can access the curriculum
  • Encouraging independence while providing necessary guidance and support
  • Implementing strategies to manage challenging behaviors and promote positive interactions
2. Collaboration with Educational Professionals

Working closely with teachers, the SENCO, and other professionals is crucial in this role. You will:

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of IEPs and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
  • Participate in regular meetings to discuss student progress and strategies
  • Share observations and insights about students' needs and achievements
  • Assist in the planning and delivery of differentiated lessons and activities
  • Liaise with external agencies and specialists when required
3. Supporting Academic Progress

Your role in supporting students' academic development includes:
