Job description

Prospero Teaching is recruiting a dedicated and experienced SENCo to join a specialist secondary school in Portsmouth that supports pupils with a range of special educational needs and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges. This is a rewarding opportunity to lead and shape inclusive practice in a nurturing and highly supportive environment.

Start Date: ASAP
Contract Type: Permanent or Temp-to-Perm
Salary: MPS/UPS + SEN Allowance
Hours: Full-Time
About the Role

As SENCo, you will:

  • Lead the development and delivery of the school's SEND strategy
  • Coordinate provision for pupils with SEN and SEMH needs, ensuring tailored support and measurable progress
  • Work closely with teaching staff, support teams, and external agencies to implement effective interventions
  • Oversee EHCPs, referrals, and statutory reviews, maintaining accurate records and compliance
  • Provide training and guidance to staff to promote inclusive and trauma-informed practice
  • Champion a whole-school approach to wellbeing, resilience, and personalised learning
What We're Looking For
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Experience in a SENCo role or a strong interest in SEND/SEMH with a willingness to undertake SENCo training
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills
  • A commitment to inclusive education and pupil wellbeing

SENCo training will be provided for the right candidate.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Hold an enhanced child-barred list DBS certificate registered with the update service (or be willing to apply)
  • Provide two professional child-related references
  • Have up-to-date safeguarding training (or be willing to complete this)
