Job description

A fantastic Special Needs School just outside of Thatcham are currently seeking an SEN/Mental Health Teaching Assistant to join their team long-term, starting immediately. They offer schooling for children between 5 and 18 years with complex educational needs, communication difficulties and behaviour challenges. The school specialises in not only providing integrated education, but also therapeutic support for every child with a significant focus on well being.

As an SEN/Mental Health Teaching Assistant, you will be help to provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils, and help to monitor their academic achievements, as well as their emotional well being. You will help to increase their interpersonal and social skills, ensuring when they leave school, they will succeed. You will also help encourage pupils to make positive decisions, and help them cope with any challenges they face.

The school works in partnership with external professionals including educational and occupational psychologists, counsellors and speech and language therapists. You will have the opportunity to work alongside them and shadow their work, providing you with the experience needed to train as a Therapist or Psychologist in the future. You will also gain experience and further your knowledge of neurodiversity, mental health difficulties and the challenges young people face.
