Job description

We are seeking an experienced and confident SEN HLTA to support pupils with a range of additional needs across our partner primary and specialist SEND schools. This role is ideal for a skilled practitioner who can lead learning, deliver targeted interventions, and work closely with teaching staff to ensure every child receives the support they need to thrive.

About the Role

As an SEN HLTA, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils with complex needs including ASD, SEMH, ADHD, global delay, speech & language needs, and physical or sensory difficulties. You will lead small groups, deliver tailored interventions, and occasionally provide whole-class cover where required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver pre-planned lessons and provide PPA/cover across the school when needed
  • Lead targeted SEN interventions (phonics, language development, social skills, emotional regulation, sensory support)
  • Work 1:1 with pupils who require personalised support
  • Adapt activities and resources to match pupils' individual learning needs
  • Use strategies such as PECs, visuals, Makaton, TEACCH, sensory circuits (where applicable)
  • Implement behaviour and support plans in collaboration with teachers and the SENDCo
  • Provide accurate feedback on pupil progress and development
  • Maintain a calm, nurturing and inclusive learning environment
Requirements
  • HLTA qualification or substantial HLTA-level classroom experience
  • Strong SEN background, ideally within primary or specialist provisions
  • Confident delivering small-group and whole-class learning
  • Excellent behaviour management and de-escalation skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff and families
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
