Job description
SEN Education and Engagement Specialist

Department: Recruitment - Midlands

Employment Type: Contract

Location: Bedford, Bedfordshire

Compensation: £25.00 - £35.00 / hour

Description

Inspiring hope for children with barriers to learning, outside of the classroom.

For those with SEN and SEMH needs, attending school can feel impossible. Overwhelming classrooms, lack of understanding and pressure on resources often leaves them without vital support and many end up as unwilling or unable to attend.

Being out of education, these young people are desperately in need of your experience, expertise and understanding, which is why you should consider working with Fresh Start in Education. Working on a 1:1 or 2:1 basis, in placements set up and supported by our dedicated team, you will plan, deliver or support bespoke learning programmes designed around your student’s needs and interests. By linking YouTube to English, baking to Maths, gardening to Science, you'll turn their world into their classroom.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Providing holistic, 1:1 support to children or young people in their homes, or a public setting.
  • Delivering personalised, creative sessions that reflect each learner’s needs, interests and abilities.
  • Sessions run during the school day (term time only) and typically last 3 to 5 hours.
  • Working flexibly (on a bank staff contract) as part of a compassionate, expert-led team that values you, your skills and creative input.
Who We’re Looking For
  • Education professionals with experience supporting children with SEN and SEMH needs, including ASD and PDA.
  • Those with a background in primary education or pastoral support.
  • Experience teaching or supporting the Primary National Curriculum.
  • A minimum of 2 consistent weekdays of availability.
  • Up-to-date understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
What you can expect from Fresh Start in Education
  • £25–£35 per hour, depending on experience.
  • Travel subsidy & £15 per day resource allowance.
  • Free access to counselling and wellbeing services, pension options, and store discounts.
  • Ongoing CPD and training opportunities.
  • Dedicated line manager support and inclusion in a supportive, expert team.
  • Bank staff role (PAYE), offering both short-term and long-term placements.
