SEN Cover Supervisor - Autism Resource Unit (Oldham)

Location: Oldham, Greater Manchester

Contract Type: Full-time, Term-time only

Start Date: After October half term

Salary: £100 - £120 per day (dependent on experience and qualifications)

Are you a confident and compassionate SEN professional looking for a rewarding role supporting young people with Autism (ASC)? We are working with a specialist provision in Oldham that caters for students aged 11 to 19 years, and we're seeking a Cover Supervisor to provide high‑quality classroom support and supervision within their Autism Resource Unit. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting students with complex needs, helping them access learning in a structured, nurturing, and inclusive environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and support classes within the Autism Unit in the absence of the class teacher
  • Deliver pre‑planned lessons and activities across a range of subjects, ensuring that learning continues effectively
  • Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants, Therapists, and SENDCo to maintain consistency and structure for each learner
  • Support pupils with communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation, adapting approaches to individual needs
  • Implement positive behaviour management and sensory regulation strategies in line with the school's policies
  • Create a calm, supportive, and engaging classroom environment that encourages participation and independence
About You
  • Experience working with students with Autism (ASD) or within a specialist or SEND setting (essential)
  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to lead learning in the absence of a teacher
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach, with the ability to build trust and rapport with young people
  • Good understanding of EHCPs, differentiated learning, and autism‑friendly teaching practices
  • Team Teach training or other de‑escalation/behaviour management certification is desirable
  • A degree, HLTA, or Cover Supervisor qualification is advantageous, though experienced SEN practitioners are also encouraged to apply
