Job description

Do you have the patience, empathy, and resilience to make a lasting difference in the lives of young people with SEMH needs?

A supportive educational setting in Hull is seeking a passionate and committed SEMH Tutor to work with students who require additional support due to social, emotional, and mental health challenges. Your role will be key in helping students overcome barriers and achieve personal and academic progress.

Essential Qualities That We Are Looking For:
  • Deliver tailored 1:1 and small group tutoring sessions across core subjects.
  • Create a safe, nurturing learning environment that supports emotional and behavioural development.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships to encourage student engagement and motivation.
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff and pastoral teams.
  • Support students in developing self-confidence, independence, and social skills.
The Successful Candidate Will:
  • Experience working with students with SEMH or behavioural needs (in education or care settings).
  • Strong communication, empathy, and behaviour management skills.
  • Ability to build rapport and adapt teaching approaches to individual needs.
  • A calm, patient, and encouraging manner.
  • A background in tutoring, youth work, education, or psychology is desirable.
  • Have an enhanced DBS registered to the update service or be happy to apply for one with GSL Education.
