Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant (TA)

Pay Rate: £95 – £110 per day (depending on experience)

Are you a patient, empathetic, and resilient individual passionate about supporting pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs?

GSL Education are seeking a dedicated SEMH TA to join a nurturing and inclusive school in Chapeltown (S65). This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference by helping children overcome emotional and behavioural challenges, develop coping skills, and achieve academic and personal growth.

As an SEMH TA, you will:
  • Offer focused one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with SEMH needs, helping them remain settled and engaged in lessons.
  • Support teaching staff by reinforcing adapted learning tasks and carrying out individualised behaviour or support plans.
  • Help maintain a calm, encouraging learning atmosphere that nurtures pupils’ emotional health and growing resilience.
  • Build positive, supportive connections with pupils to boost their confidence and social development.
  • Work in partnership with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff to provide consistent guidance and track pupil progress.
Requirements for the SEMH Teaching Assistant role:
  • Background in supporting children or young people with SEMH, SEND, or behavioural challenges, ideally within a school or care environment.
  • Confident in communication, managing behaviour, and building positive relationships.
  • Brings a caring, patient, and proactive attitude when working with pupils who need additional support.
  • An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
  • A full CV covering the last 10 years, with explanations for any employment gaps.
