Overview

SEMH Teaching Assistant - Mainstream School

Location: Rochdale
Contract: Long-term / ongoing (supply or temporary to permanent opportunities available)
Pay: Competitive daily rate (dependent on experience)

The Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who may display challenging behaviour or require emotional regulation support. You will play a vital role in helping pupils engage with learning, develop positive relationships, and build confidence within a mainstream classroom environment.

Responsibilities
  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEMH needs
  • Supporting pupils to manage emotions, behaviour, and social interactions
  • Implementing behaviour support strategies and individual support plans
  • Working collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCO, and pastoral staff
  • Promoting positive behaviour and helping pupils remain engaged in lessons
  • Supporting pupils during transitions and unstructured times such as break and lunch
  • Creating a calm, safe, and inclusive learning environment
