Overview

SEMH English Teacher
Location: Wigan | Salary: £150 - £210 per day (dependent on experience) | Contract Type: Full-time, Long-Term

Are you a passionate English Teacher with experience supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? This role is with a specialist secondary provision in Wigan that supports students aged 11-16 with SEMH needs in a trauma-informed, inclusive setting.

The school is seeking a resilient and dedicated English Teacher to join from September 2025, to inspire and support students who may have become disengaged from mainstream education.

Responsibilities
  • Planning and delivering engaging English lessons to small groups of students with SEMH needs
  • Adapting teaching strategies to meet individual learning and emotional needs
  • Managing behaviour in a consistent, calm, and supportive manner
  • Working collaboratively with support staff, parents/carers, and external professionals
  • Encouraging student progress in both academic and personal development
Qualifications
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or relevant teaching qualification
  • Experience working with young people with SEMH needs and/or challenging behaviour
  • A strong understanding of trauma-informed and inclusive teaching practices
  • The ability to build positive, trusting relationships with students
