Hours: 8.30 am - 4.00 pm

Contract Type: Long-Term, Full-Time

GSL Education are seeking an enthusiastic SEMH Behaviour Teaching Assistant to join a dynamic school in Newham. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on students' learning and well-being. In this role, you will work closely with students who face SEMH challenges, supporting their emotional and behavioural development within the classroom environment. You will help create a positive and safe learning atmosphere where students feel motivated and engaged.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one and small-group support to students with SEMH needs.
• Assist in implementing behaviour management strategies to promote positive behaviours in the classroom.
• Support students in managing their emotions and improving their social skills.
• Help to create and maintain an inclusive, nurturing environment for students with SEMH challenges.
• Work closely with the SENCO and other staff members to develop and implement individualised behaviour plans.
• Provide support to students in overcoming barriers to learning caused by SEMH issues.
• Help students engage with the curriculum through tailored support and differentiated activities.
• Promote self-esteem and build trusting relationships with students.
• Track and monitor student progress, providing regular feedback to teachers and parents.
• Support students during transitions and assist with personal care where needed.
• Encourage students to take responsibility for their behaviour and learning.
• Maintain a safe and orderly environment, following the school’s safeguarding and behavioural guidelines.

Requirements

• Experience working with children, particularly those with SEMH needs as a SEMH Behaviour Teaching Assistant, is highly desirable.
• CACHE Level 2 or 3, NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Childcare or Teaching Assistance, or similar qualifications are preferred.
• A degree in Psychology, Education, or a related field is beneficial.
• Strong understanding of SEMH needs and experience in implementing behaviour management techniques.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to build rapport with students and staff.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Passion for supporting students with additional emotional and behavioural challenges.
