Job summary

Porterhouse Recruitment Ltd is seeking an experienced Solar PV Electrician in Liverpool to install and maintain domestic, commercial and industrial solar PV systems as part of a self-employed role.

You will handle DC/AC wiring, control wiring, earthing and bonding, and ensure compliance with UK electrical regulations while coordinating with engineers and site teams.

The position offers a competitive rate and a fully expensed van, with opportunities for progression within the team.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 Electrical Installation or equivalent.
• 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification (2382).
• Previous solar PV experience.
• Knowledge of inverters, optimisers, hybrid systems and energy storage.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Install, commission and maintain domestic, commercial and industrial solar PV systems.
• Complete DC wiring: module strings, fuses, isolators, string combiners and cable containment.
• Complete AC wiring: inverter outputs, distribution boards, generation meters, CT clamps and backup circuits.
• Wire controls: Ethernet, RS485 and Wi-Fi monitoring, rapid shutdown and optimiser circuits.
• Earth and bond arrays and support structures, integrating surge protection devices (SPDs).
• Inspect, test and verify systems; diagnose faults and inverter issues.
• Prepare commissioning records and test sheets; submit DNO notifications.
• Check compliance with applicable UK electrical regulations, solar standards and codes.
• Work safely and coordinate delivery with engineers, roofers and apprentices.
