Job description
Job Overview

I am looking for a kind, reliable and trustworthy person to provide companionship and support to a lovely gentleman living with Alzheimer's in his own home. I would love to have some respite from my role of wife/full‑time carer.

This is not a personal care role as there is not any hoisting/transfer support: an agency visits four times a day to meet all personal care needs. Therefore, your role would be to simply be there in the home ensuring that my husband remains safe and comfortable throughout the day. This will involve completing tasks like preparing simple drinks/snacks/meals and feeding these to my husband and keeping the home ticking over while I am gone. For example, keeping on top of washing up, putting on wash loads and hanging them to dry. My husband does not need support during the night but I need somebody in the home to ensure his safety when I am not around.

My husband cannot communicate verbally and is either lying in a bed or sitting in a chair. He also has a very calm and gentle nature, so he is not challenging to care for. He has a love of food and a sweet tooth to match! He's a bit of a chocoholic! He was once a patisserie chef, so if you fancy baking a cake while at work and sharing it with him during afternoon tea he would get pleasure out of the eating part!

The work would be “as and when” needed. I would like to visit friends in London and be away from the house for a day, a 24‑hour period or longer once the Personal Assistant feels comfortable in their role. It is important to me that the Personal Assistant has knowledge of first aid and can act in an emergency (should the case arise) so that I can have time away from home without worrying too much. I would like to find somebody who I could book in respite support at both our convenience.
