A leading media company is seeking a Production Editor to oversee the monthly production cycle of Today's Golfer magazine. This role involves ensuring high standards of copy and layout while adhering to the brand’s style. The position offers a hybrid working model requiring 1-2 days in the office. Ideal candidates will have advanced knowledge in production and editing, especially within InDesign, and a passion for the golf industry is preferred. Job description
The Focus of the Role:

As part of a busy, talented team of Production Editors and Designers, the main focus of your role will be steering Today's Golfer magazine through its monthly production cycle, with support where necessary.

You’ll ensure that all copy and layouts are of a consistently high standard, adhering to house style. Your overall objective is to guarantee the brand is consistent, error‑free, looks good and reads wonderfully.

You will also be required to work across other titles as directed by the Group Production Lead.

You will have a hybrid working model, meaning 1 to 2 days per week in our Peterborough office and the rest working from home.

Please note: This is a 12 month FTC.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Working with the Group Production Lead and brand editorial teams to forward‑plan the brand(s) production schedule and to set deadlines for features within individual issues.
  • Working firmly, but sensitively, with other departments to ensure deadlines are met on all types of pages, including marketing, commercial etc.
  • Subbing/editing/proofing raw copy, pages and digital channels of the brand and all promotions, ensuring they are of a consistently high standard, contain no errors and adhere to house style.
  • Working to multiple flat plans and tight or reactive content/late changes, and tight deadlines, alongside internal stakeholders.
  • Writing/supervising headlines and intros, clearing them with the Group Production Lead or Group Editor.
  • Alerting the Group Production Lead or Group Editor when copy, layouts or proofs aren’t up to the required standard.
  • Assisting the Group Production Lead in managing the flow of copy and proofs around the office, ensuring as much as possible that there are no bottlenecks or gaps, and that the Art and Production desks are working at a manageable and consistent rate.
  • Working closely with the Art team to ensure that layouts complement copy, and that the design and pictures work with the copy. Alerting the Group Editor to any problems with layouts.
  • Assigning work on the production desk and managing its progress to ensure properly subbed pages at the required rate.
  • Checking subbed page proofs before passing them on, paying particular attention to headlines, sells and picture captions.
  • Ensuring that all pages are legally sound, getting them checked by the solicitor when necessary.
  • Each article delivered and sub edited to a high level of accuracy, to deadline.
  • Working fast and flexibly to deadline, creating and amending flat plans, troubleshooting issues.
  • Passing proofs on to the relevant team members.
  • Ensuring corrections are properly incorporated into proofs.
  • Carrying out final reads of proofs, ensuring them to be error‑free. Keeping a constant check at this stage that all pages fit properly into the issue as a whole, with no clashes or duplication.
  • Final approval of pages and advertorials.
  • Management of freelance resource for production.
What You’ll Bring:
  • High level GPS knowledge (WoodWing preferable).
  • Highly proficient in subbing on InDesign.
  • Proficient use of Censhare and in sending to printers.
  • Have a working knowledge of Monday.com.
  • Have an interest/knowledge of golf, or play golf (advantage)
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teams or independently and to communicate with a range of stakeholders.
  • Generate consistently high-quality copy and proofs, ensuring that the brand contains no mistakes.
  • Originality in headlines and intros to maintain brand’s competitive advantage.
  • Maintain a commitment to accuracy of grammar, spelling, language, tone and sense.
  • Contributes ideas for developing the brand.
  • Willingness to work across multiple brands and channels, including digital.
  • Ability to create and adapt flat plans continuously to support those titles that are more reactive to planning changes.
