Job summary

A mental health services provider is looking for a Security Officer to ensure safety at Langdon Hospital. The role involves conducting security tasks, assisting nursing teams, and maintaining a secure environment. Job description

Thisis an exciting opportunity to join the Security Team at Langdon Hospital. You will be part of a team whose mainpurpose is to keep patients, staff and the environment safe.

Inthis role, you'll carry out security tasks across the site to ensure asafe environment for people, property and information. As you'll be based at the hospital, you'll support our nursing teams in delivering patient-centeredcare, ensuring a safe environment for both staff and patients.

Therole is dynamic and challenging. On a day-to-day basis, you'll conduct perimeter checks across the site and on our wards, reporting any security concerns or damage. You will also be on-hand to assist our ward nursing and multi-disciplinary healthcare teams with new patient ward admissions and act as an escort/driver for any hospital/court visits. Additionally, you'll be part of the restraint team when needing to respond to any emergencies on the wards and, alongside the Security Manager, you'll provide training to staff on handcuff/soft cuff, security awareness and search training. You may also be asked to carry out nursing assistant roles as required, such as patient observations & conducting urine drug screens (UDS)

Due to the nature of the role, you'll be required to work a flexible shift pattern over a 7 day period which may occasionally include evenings and nights depending on the needs of the service.

Main duties of the job

Communication is key in this role and you must have experience of working in a team. As a result, excellent verbal and written skills are required.

Interacting with patients and the public you will be confident in giving non-clinical information and advice that improves their experience. Dealing with sensitive information daily, you will understand the importance of data security.

You will often work under pressure and without direct supervision, so we are looking for someone confident and capable. You will prioritise tasks, and manage your own workload, providing support for your colleagues where required.

You will become an important part of the team, working to ensure that every patient receives high quality care. You may be required to support the induction of new staff members, demonstrating activities to them.

Due to the nature of the role, all staff are required to attend & pass a physical restraint assessment as you may be involved in restraint incidents.

Qualifications
  • Basic Education.
  • If equivalent qualification is not already obtained, to complete Level 3 in NHS Security Training within 12 months of commencing employment at a reduced salary.
  • Level 3 qualification in NHS Security Training or equivalent experience.
  • Other evidence of training or development relevant to within mental health settings.
Experience
  • Previous employment / experience of working with people in a caring situation or previous experience working within a secure environment.
  • Knowledge of mental health and a basic understanding of security requirements.
  • Awareness of safeguarding principles.
  • Previous care experience with people who have Mental Health difficulties.
