A leading healthcare organization in Manchester is seeking a Security Officer to provide a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Responsibilities include operating CCTV and access control systems, portering duties, and managing switchboard activities. Candidates should possess excellent customer service skills and the ability to handle emergencies effectively. The role offers a competitive pay band and a rotating shift pattern.
Responsible for providing a uniformed specialist service. Ensuring that patients, visitors, and staff are given advice and provided with a safe and secure environment in line with legislation and particularly in emergency situations. This will include communication with emergency services.
Applicants should be smart, flexible, reliable, decisive and show initiative in all situations. Excellent customer service skills are essential.
Receive, interpret and exchange routine information and documentation. Provide clear routine information, advice, instructions and training to groups using tact and persuasive skills. Communicate and calm violent or distressed people professionally, liaise with outside agencies (fire, police, ambulance), and ensure contractors log in/out and are advised of trust protocols.
Follow training to understand working controls, procedures and policies. Keep up to date with changes, maintain detailed knowledge of safety controls, hospital layout, equipment, manual handling, driving skills, and security restraint procedures.
Review, interpret and appreciate information and data. Make judgments and decisions across a range of facts, including staff performance and shortages. Analyse and investigate incidents, resolve issues and distribute results.
Plan and organise straightforward tasks and programmes, including crime prevention measures and maintenance requirements. Manage documentation in line with trust policy and operational procedures.
Maintain all security, switchboard, portering, stores and car‑park related activities. Use manual dexterity for CCTV and access control systems, manipulate fine tools, handle trolleys, wheelchairs and beds, drive for short periods, and log complaints and incidents.
Provide a safe and secure environment, portering service to patients and advice to all parties during incidents and emergencies.
Comply with and help develop all related controls, ensure standards are followed, contribute to quality initiatives and attend required training.
Secure ad‑hoc cash collections, lost property and assets following policies and procedures. Maintain physical equipment and use it safely.
Participate in career development, support induction and supervision of less experienced colleagues.
Maintain accurate electronic and physical records, preserve evidence for the trust’s controls and report to supervisors.
Undertake surveys or audits and participate in external/internal audit reviews.
Act independently within legislation, trust and departmental policies, and provide guidance on issues independently.
Work across the trust base and treatment centres. Move patients, equipment, furniture, waste and ancillary items as required; maintain contingency plans and perform controlled restraint where necessary.
Maintain concentration in unpredictable situations, such as surveillance of incidents on CCTV screens.
