Job summary

RNN Group is seeking a Security Officer to safeguard learners, staff and visitors across its campuses. Based at Rotherham Dearne Valley and North Notts Colleges, you will monitor buildings/grounds and enforce security regulations to promote a safe learning environment.

You will engage with learners, patrol premises, monitor CCTV, control access points and respond to emergencies. The role supports pastoral care and student welfare while maintaining a visible uniformed presence.

Qualifications

• Experience in security guarding involving public/learner interactions.
• Experience with intruder and fire alarm systems and CCTV monitoring.
• Evidence of first aid training.

Responsibilities

• Patrol campuses and monitor buildings/grounds to deter and respond to incidents.
• Manage access points and provide a visible security presence.
• Respond to emergencies and liaise with Security Manager.
• Assist in supervision of vulnerable learners in communal areas.
• Move learners from spaces to classrooms as required.

Security Officer

Location: Based at any of our campuses Rotherham College, Dearne Valley College and North Notts College depending on Business Needs

Salary: £26,745 a year + benefits

Vacancy Type: Temporary until 30 April 2027, Full time (37hrs per week, all year round)

As a Security Officer for RNN Group (Further Education and Training Provider in South Yorkshire and North Nottinghamshire) you will work within an educational environment, responsible for ensuring the safety and security of learners, staff and visitors within the campus.

You will help maintain a secure and conducive atmosphere to promote learning by monitoring college buildings/grounds, enforcing regulations, and responding to emergencies.

Your duties will involve engaging with learners, patrolling premises/grounds, monitoring CCTV, managing access points, and providing a visible presence to deter and respond to potential security threats/issues.

The RNN Group actively promotes a pastoral approach to encourage its learners within the college environment. As Security Officer you will support staff in managing student behaviour by promoting positive conduct, de-escalating conflicts, and assisting in the supervision of vulnerable learners in communal areas, including moving of learners from campus spaces into classrooms.

Ultimately, you will ensure that the Group s buildings are a safe and secure environment for students, staff and visitors within the campus.

You Will

You will have relevant experience in a security guarding environment involving dealing with public in the retail or public sector. You will have experience in the use of large intruder and fire alarm systems and CCTV monitoring and be able to evidence experience carrying our first aid.

You will hold a Level 2 (or equivalent) qualification in English and Maths (or be willing to undertake).

Department Info

The role of Security Officer is shift based and hours of work will be in line with college needs in order to provide an effective uniformed presence during all operational hours.

The role will require being physically active for extended periods and you will have the capability to respond quickly to emergencies, which may involve running or climbing stairs when required.

You will work as part of the Estates and Facilities department, liaising with colleagues from within the department and across the campus. You will report to the Security Manager
