Job summary

Hamilton Barnes Associates Limited is seeking a Software Security Engineer to join our Information Security team. You will build tools and controls to protect a large-scale tech environment, bringing strong CS fundamentals and hands-on coding ability.

You will design and develop internal security tooling, work with engineers to fix weaknesses, and improve threat detection and monitoring. Go is the primary development language with Python for scripting, and comfort with scalable systems is

Qualifications

• 2–5 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong computer science fundamentals across algorithms and data structures.
• Proficiency in at least one statically typed language (Go or similar).
• Interest in security and solving security-focused engineering problems.
• Experience with systems, infrastructure and scalable software.
• Ability to write clean, maintainable code and work autonomously.
• Strong communication and teamwork with engineers.

The organization is currently on the lookout for a Software Security Engineer to join its Information Security team, building tools and controls that protect a complex, large-scale technology environment. The ideal candidate will approach security challenges as a software engineer, bringing strong computer science fundamentals and hands‑on coding ability rather than a traditional analyst or penetration testing background.

Responsibilities:

• Design and develop internal security tools and infrastructure
• Work with engineering teams to identify security weaknesses and build practical solutions
• Improve threat detection and security monitoring capabilities
• Develop defence-in-depth controls
• Contribute across requirements gathering, architecture, prototyping and development
• Support a broad range of security and compliance‑related projects
• Help improve authentication, authorisation and other core security systems

Skills/Must Have:

• 2–5 years of professional software engineering experience
• Strong computer science and software development fundamentals
• Proficiency in at least one statically typed programming language
• A clear interest in security or experience solving security‑focused engineering problems
• A good understanding of systems, infrastructure and how technology is built
• The ability to write clean, reliable and maintainable code
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with other engineers
• Someone who learns quickly, pays close attention to detail and can work autonomously
• Development is primarily in Golang, although previous Go experience is not required. Python is also used for scripting.

Desirable Skills:

• Security‑focused personal projects
• Blogs, research or open‑source contributions
• Experience participating in CTFs
• Practical security certifications such as OSCP
• Experience building security tooling or secure infrastructure

Salary:

• £200,000–£250,000 total compensation, with flexibility for exceptional candidates
