Job summary

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Security Engineer for its UK SOC to design detections and respond to incidents within a fast‑moving cloud security environment. You will collaborate with data scientists, SDEs, and other security engineers to deploy innovative, scalable protections across AWS infrastructure.

You will join a UK team serving UK customers, contributing to industry-leading security programs, strategic improvements, and automation initiatives, including AI-driven approaches.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in CS or equivalent required.
  • Knowledge of HTTP, DNS and TCP/IP networking essential.
  • Experience programming in Python, Ruby, Go, Swift, Java, .Net, C++ or similar OO language.

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a Security Operations Centre (SOC).
  • Build detections to identify suspicious and malicious behaviour.
  • Engineer innovative solutions and automation to improve processes.

As a Security Engineer, you’ll help to build and manage services that detect and automate the mitigation of cybersecurity threats across Amazon’s infrastructure. You’ll work with data scientists, software development engineers, and other security engineers across multiple teams to develop innovative, world-leading security solutions. Our services protect the AWS cloud for all customers and preserves our customers’ trust in us. You’ll get to use the full power and breadth of AWS technologies to build services that proactively protect AWS customers, both internally and externally, from security threats.

You will be working in a team of industry-leading security experts working with UK customers to operate and continuously improve industry-leading security programs and processes. This role forms part of our Security Operations Centre (SOC) and you will be responsible for building detections and responding to security incidents. Aside from security incident management, you will be expected to think strategically and build innovative solutions to improve efficiency across the team. As large part of this will be introducing AI and automation.

About The Team

The team consists of a mix of security engineers, ranging in experience from junior to experienced.

You will need to be a UK national and able to obtain and maintain a UK Government Security Clearance. Further details found here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/united-kingdom-security-vetting-clearance-levels

This team works alongside the wider security team, including insider risk, information security, assurance and physical security.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
  • Knowledge of networking protocols such as HTTP, DNS and TCP/IP
  • Experience programming in Python, Ruby, Go, Swift, Java, .Net, C++ or similar object oriented language
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with AWS products and services
  • Experience with any combination of the following: threat modeling, secure coding, identity management and authentication, software development, cryptography, system administration and network security
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, Java, C++
