Job description

Are you experienced in security, protective security or security delivery within a complex infrastructure or regulated environment?

Can you confidently challenge project teams, contractors and senior stakeholders when security requirements aren't being met?

Salary: £44,380 - £57,488 + 15% flexible fund
Location: London or Birmingham, in office 3 days per week
Deadline: 19th AugustAn exciting opportunity has arisen for a Security Design Manager to support the delivery of security requirements across four major HS2 stations.

This isn't a hands-on security design position. You'll act as the key day-to-day interface between HS2's security function and the project teams responsible for delivering the stations, making sure security requirements are understood, incorporated and ultimately delivered through design, construction and handover.

The role would suit someone with a good grounding in security who combines technical awareness with excellent communication, judgement and stakeholder management skills.

Essential:
  • Over 3 years of relevant experience within security, protective security, construction, infrastructure or another regulated/CNI environment.
  • A good general understanding of physical and protective security.
  • Experience working within complex projects or operational environments with multiple stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the confidence to engage effectively at different levels of an organisation.
  • The ability to challenge project teams and contractors constructively and confidently when required.
  • Strong judgement and commercial awareness, with the ability to balance security requirements against practical project delivery.
  • The ability to interpret requirements, ask the right questions and identify when specialist technical support is required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • A relevant qualification or demonstrable professional development within security or a related field.
Nice to have:
  • Experience within rail, major infrastructure, construction or another Critical National Infrastructure sector.
  • Previous experience in security design, security delivery or security assurance.
  • Knowledge or experience relating to CCTV, security systems, Hostile Vehicle Mitigation (HVM) or blast protection.
  • Experience dealing with security regulators or organisations such as DfT, NPSA or British Transport Police.
  • Relevant security courses or qualifications, including protective security, HVM or security systems.
  • A degree or postgraduate qualification in a relevant subject such as security, defence, criminology or a related discipline.
  • Previous police or military experience combined with subsequent commercial, construction, infrastructure or security experience.
