Job description

Job Description

You are a project professional with experience on major capital programmes or large portfolios in the defence sector, ideally working with UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) organisations and/or Tier 1 suppliers or consultancies.

Our clients are “project enterprises”, including UK Government Defence organisations and Tier 1 suppliers, tasked with delivering complex portfolios of projects and programmes that realise military capability, secure infrastructure, and transformational change across people, process, technology and assets.

You want to transform our clients’ approach to project‑programme‑portfolio management (P3M) by implementing digital solutions aligned to Defence acquisition lifecycles and secure delivery environments.

We seek to recruit Associate Director and Project Director grades to support digital transformations for our clients by implementing and integrating applications and data to support robust project management and project controls.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess current challenges and determine client requirements, including within complex Defence delivery and assurance environments.
  • Implement or refine established P3M methodologies, processes, data structures, tools and systems to enable the client to achieve desired project outcomes aligned to Defence governance, gated reviews and acquisition lifecycles.
  • Direct technology suppliers and lead digital implementation teams to establish client capability, often within secure environments and across client‑supplier ecosystems.
  • Embed changes in client enterprises by supporting stakeholder engagement and business readiness activities, across both MoD organisations and Tier 1 delivery partners.
  • Continuously improve advisory services.
  • Produce documents, deliverables and reports to support findings and recommendations across various stages of client engagements.
  • Work within diverse and multi‑disciplinary teams representing Turner & Townsend at both client sites and virtually.
  • Participate in business generation activities such as bids and proposals, working closely with senior management and the wider Turner & Townsend team.
  • Support marketing and employee advocacy initiatives where appropriate.
Qualifications
  • Graduate calibre with relevant industry experience.
  • Experience in the establishment or transformation of project “ways of working”, integrating P3M disciplines and/or enterprise functions (e.g. project controls, commercial, delivery/PM, finance, information management).
  • Experience working within the UK Defence sector, including MoD organisations and/or Tier 1 suppliers, is advantageous.
  • Understanding of Defence acquisition processes (e.g. CADMID/CADMIT), governance and assurance frameworks.
  • Experience working in secure or regulated environments.
  • Experience defining or refining project structures to integrate asset information, work, resource, schedule, cost and risk.
  • Experience translating client methodologies into supply chain requirements and contract scope.
  • Experience in specification or implementation of project controls or P3M technology.
  • Experience with major capital programmes or large portfolios.
  • Familiarity with core project controls functions (scope, schedule, cost, risk, performance reporting).
  • Experience in business capability establishment or change.
  • APM, PMI or similar certification or equivalent experience is advantageous.
Key Expected Behaviours and Ways of Working
  • Take personal responsibility to complete actions and resolve issues.
  • Able to build strong, professional internal and client relationships.
  • Possess an analytical mindset.
  • Express ideas with clarity, sticking to key points.
  • Listen effectively to understand wider issues and impacts.
  • Show clear determination to achieve set goals.
  • Remain resilient despite obstacles, disappointments or challenges at work.
