Job Description

Posted Friday 21 August 2026 at 00:00

Great ideas come from different minds. That’s why we bring together engineers, scientists, analysts, and creatives from every background — and give them the trust, tools, and freedom to make a difference. What connects us is the mission: solving meaningful problems and building capability that protects what matters most.
And as the challenges evolve, so do we — working on the technologies that will shape tomorrow, not just today.

Roke is a world-class technology and engineering consultancy. Roke delivers advanced research, development services and products to high profile customers who come to Roke with varied and challenging problems to solve.

We are seeking a diligent and professional Security Advisor to support the effective delivery of security activities across the organisation. The role will focus on vetting, aftercare, and the ongoing management of security-related personnel information, whilst also supporting the physical security arrangements in place when required to ensure compliance with relevant security policies, standards, and regulatory requirements

This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with a strong understanding of personnel vetting and aftercare processes, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to work accurately and effectively as part of a team.

As a valued member of the Roke Security Team, reporting to the Head of Protective Security within the Corporate Services Directorate, you will use your experience as a Security Advisor to deliver advice and support to all aspects of the organisation in a timely manner. We’re looking for a self-starter and ‘people person’ to thrive within our growing Security team.

What will your role look like?

Assisting the wider Roke Security team in all aspects of administration including, but not limited to:

  • Supporting the end-to-end management of personnel security vetting, including initial applications, renewals, upgrades, changes in circumstances, and leavers.
  • Undertaking routine aftercare activities, including the identification, recording, and escalation of security-related changes or issues.
  • Maintaining accurate, timely, and confidential personnel security records in accordance with organisational policy and data protection requirements.
  • Liaising professionally with employees, managers, and relevant external bodies in relation to personnel security matters.
  • Monitoring vetting status and ensure compliance with contractual, regulatory, and customer requirements.
  • Assisting with audits, reviews, and assurance activities related to protective security measures.
  • Providing administrative and operational support to the wider security team as required including support to physical security activities, such as access control processes, classified material handling and destruction etc.
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of security processes and procedures.
  • Developing and providing personnel security awareness training.
  • Undertaking international travel security risk assessments and providing travellers with briefings.

What would we like from you?

  • Good working knowledge of personnel security vetting and aftercare processes.
  • Proven ability to identify, assess, and appropriately **escalate** business and security risks.
  • Awareness of basic physical security principles and controls in a Defence company.
  • Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple tasks both independently and as part of a team to deliver outputs effectively and accurately.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues at all levels.
  • Professional, discreet, and able to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.
  • Confident and competent user of IT systems, including the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Previous experience in a personnel security, protective security, or related administrative role.
  • Familiarity with government or industry security standards (e.g. UK security vetting frameworks).
  • Experience supporting physical security measures within an office, site, or controlled environment.
  • Experience working in a regulated, secure, or compliance-driven environment.

Personal Attributes

  • Trustworthy, dependable, and able to maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Methodical and thorough, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Willingness to learn and develop within a personnel and protective security function.
  • Strong team player with a positive and professional attitude.

This role will be based from the Roke Romsey office, however, there will be an expectation of occasional travel to the other Roke offices when required.

  • Competitive reward package – highly competitive salary, performance-related bonuses, salary reviews and pension scheme.
  • Work-life balance – flexible working through flexi-time and hybrid arrangements, plus 30 days' annual leave with the option to buy or sell additional holiday.
  • Learning and development – access to over 20,000 LinkedIn Learning courses and our dedicated Roke Academy, supporting continuous learning and career development.
  • Health and wellbeing support – flexible benefits including life assurance, a Healthcare Cash Plan, Employee Assistance Programme and eye care support.
  • Private medical cover – access to private healthcare through Bupa.
  • Recognition and rewards – length of service awards that celebrate and reward your contribution.
  • Supportive and inclusive culture – a range of employee community groups that bring colleagues together, foster meaningful connections and create a genuine sense of belonging.

All benefits are subject to eligibility, terms and conditions.
