Job summary

CGI UK, Space, Defence & Intelligence, Gloucester, on-site five days a week, seeks a Software Engineer to design, develop and maintain secure, scalable software for national security programmes. You’ll work across the full software development lifecycle, apply modern practices and explore AI capabilities to deliver valuable solutions.

You’ll contribute to backend services with Python, FastAPI, Celery, and API components, plus frontend work with React/TypeScript.

Qualifications

• Proven experience designing, developing, testing and maintaining software across the full lifecycle.
• Strong knowledge of Python and building maintainable, scalable software solutions.
• Practical experience with React, TypeScript, Docker, Pydantic, FastAPI and Celery; LangChain or AWS a plus.
• Experience working in agile delivery environments and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
• Knowledge or experience of AI development to solve business or technical challenges.
• Ability to apply software engineering principles, development standards and best practices to deliver reliable applications.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop secure, scalable software applications using modern technologies.
• Innovate with AI-driven solutions for complex client challenges.
• Contribute across the full software development lifecycle from requirements analysis to deployment and ongoing support.
• Develop backend services, APIs and application components using Python, FastAPI and Celery.
• Create responsive user interfaces with React and TypeScript.
• Automate and optimise using Docker and cloud technologies (AWS) for efficient delivery.
• Collaborate with engineers, technical specialists and clients to understand requirements and resolve challenges.
• Learn and share knowledge to support continuous improvement across the team.
